about

A song I wrote about living on the road for years playing music and then settling down right next to a highway. Recorded this in my home studio with a baritone guitar and a lap steel.

lyrics

The highway rolling past, used to call my name out loud
More youth when I was lighter, before my ego got too proud
Another venture forward with another story gained
I've wandered and I've weathered I've been wicked and I've waned
Don't take too much, can't take it with you when you go
You've got a thousand miles to go just to ease this heavy load

Made a life out of a living on the road to another show
Never minding much attention to what it took out of my soul
Patchwork pieces little parts of joy and this and that
It's wonder how I lived through all the ways the world was at
I took too much, but I left some back at the side of the road
I had a thousand miles to go to try and ease my heavy load

Moving vans changing plans never stop to see
How my life was passing by with or without me
It taught me things, songs to sing, the way the world turns
I made a buck and spent two more never keeping what I earned
I took too much, or did the road take all of me
Time is always passing by the end is closer than we think

Now I can recall just how, my youth showed me the way
I have lived and I have loved and it is with me to this day
I have a home that has my soul and we live by the side of the road
But it doesn't call to me now since I've unburdened my soul
I have enough, gonna leave it when I go
There are no more miles I have to make up
now that I've found my home
I have enough, gonna leave it when I go
No more miles I have to make up
now that I have found my home

about

Rick 'Poppa Dawg' Halisheff Kelowna, British Columbia

Hailing from the 'Left Coast' of Canada, Poppa Dawg & his band present the blues with a unique, tongue-in-cheek view. The band's sound moves from the slinky grooves of New Orleans to the down and dirty rawness of Chicago and all points in-between! Gritty and dynamic, they take the music from rushing peaks to hushing lows and then Poppa Dawg steps back from the mic to spread the news! ... more
